Federal COBRA

Federal COBRA (Consolidated Omnibus Budget Reconciliation Act) is the responsibility of employers with 20 or more employees to provide and administer.

CAL-COBRA

California has its own COBRA regulations for groups with 2 to 19 employees. CAL-COBRA is identical to Federal COBRA, except it is provided and administered by insurance and HMO companies.

The time period ends (up to 18 months of Federal COBRA followed by up to 18 months of Cal-COBRA (36 months total), or 36 months if you only have Cal-COBRA).
